Our History

The name is probably derived from Lough which is the Irish form of loch and pronounced ‘Locklin’. The change from Maguire to McGuire took place in New Zealand on arrival because the name was wrongly recorded by a clerk in a government recording office. Over the past 190 years the name Loughlin or Laughlin has been kept alive by:

Patrick Loughlin McGuire started practising law in 1988. In 1992 he established his own practice which was very successful. Since those times the firm has undergone mergers and restructuring in accordance with the Lawyers and Conveyancers Act 2006.

Our Team

Our team consists of a principal, a senior consultant and other support staff. Our exceptional results could not be achieved without our committed and dedicated staff at all levels. Most of our staff have been with us for many years. It is as a result of this strong sense of team spirit that we can assure clients that their instructions will be carried out professionally and efficiently.

Our team members speak all Chinese dialects and the Russian language. Staff training remains high on our priorities and our team is constantly furthering their legal education.

Serge Roud, the current director, joined the practice as a solicitor in 2006 and 2009 became a partner of the firm. Serge has a law degree with honours from a Russian University and, having completed study at the University of Auckland Law School, was admitted to the Bar as a Barrister and Solicitor of the High Court of New Zealand. Serge has been a member of an immigration committee for a number of years. His areas of personal and professional interest are property, contract, family and business law, and he has had a number of successful cases in these fields, as well as having an in-depth knowledge of criminal, commercial and immigration law.
